Clueless and Cryin'

I have had these socks for quiet a while now and have had the hardest time figuring out how to wear them.  I kept having visions of Alicia Silverstone and plaid skirts. Not good.
Finally, I just figured go the complete opposite of everything thigh high hosiery is typically about. The cable knit was a good start, add the baggiest top and shorts I could find, finish it off with worn in booties and chunky tribal necklace and you've got something The Man Repeller might be proud of.

I love the color and detail in this necklace. I thrifted it, of course, but it is one of those items I really wish I knew the origin.

Monoteal

So, I lucked out the other day, at Salvation Army, when I picked up this maxi skirt/ tube dress thingy. I think it is going to be extremely versatile and  gonna get lots of wear in the coming months. The color couldn't be more perfect since I prefer my neutrals in the cool grey tones.

Actually this outfit is pretty monotone, except for the pop of blue underneath and I am totally okay with that.

I have had this sweater for, literally, years.  I can never bring myself to get rid of it because I think it is just so cool and unique. I mean, really, how many garments have you seen with cranes flying across the front of them... huh?...huh?.... that's right.

Lately during outfit photos it has become necessary to let the kid do a few "poses" of her own.  She thinks it only fair that we "take turns" for the camera and who am I to say no, she is much cuter than me anyways. ;)

Not sure what this spastic face is about....

Paper Dolls and Therapy

I am loving this tradition that we've started.  Bonding over clothes,  picking ourselves apart, building each other up.  I hope this day of playing grown up paper dolls will last well into the days when adult diapers and hearing aids are the accessories of choice.
My sister, for most of her life, has been a proponent of function over fashion. Steering clear of any wedgy-inducing garments, and opting for a classic style that complimented her classic beauty.
Now here is where I should probably lay back in the ole therapist chair for a spell. My sister is beautiful. no question. personality abounds. knows no strangers and always has the right words for everything(I know you've read her blog). As you would probably guess, growing up eighteen months apart, we have always been somewhat competitive.  Knowing I would never measure up in the looks department(I've always been "cute", at best) and being painfully shy the majority of my adolescence, I think I turned to fashion as means of expression and an avenue for distinction.  Being "blessed"(?) with the body of a 12 year old boy has admittedly made it easier to dress more daringly and with the dawn of my 30th year I took on a decidedly "Now or Never" attitude toward my style.

Wow. That was a detour that I didn't see coming...holy crap. What is your hourly rate by the way?

ANYWAYS...my sister has also, with the dawn of her 30th year, sparked a fashion fire, of sorts.  She has taken on such a greater interest in dressing and styling her looks and I am SO excited to share this new commonality with her.  Now if she would just get some confidence in her choices and realize what a great eye for fashion she has honed! (could it be the lasik?)
Case and point. The two of us decided that we were going to do a sort of Kendi Style Remix and pick a group of items from my closet (she was visiting) and create 3 looks that we would wear....out of the house.  It was SUCH a blast and just look at the bangin' outfits my lil sis rocked out!

Our Choices:

 Look  #1
I really loved both of our first outfits.  Mine was my favorite of the three and her's was probably the most signature "Deedee" look (did I mention that is what we call her?). Girlfriend can accessorize with the best of them. The belt, the scarf (her own), perfect.

Look  #2
Isn't this fun?! (humor us)

Look  #3
I love that we both chose the striped dress (notice the only similar item) and wore it in ways that are SO us. Deedee's look is both my favorite and her least favorite (read: she wants to burn it) outfit.  I think it is really adventurous and has great proportions. Love how she mixed her prints and with a little more time (the little ones were getting restless) and a few more accessories (maybe a belt and long pendant) this outfit would have topped them all.

I guess that's about it. Can you just bill me for the session? thanks.

Here is Deed's corresponding post.

It's in the Air

This weekend we packed up and headed out on a little road trip down to Southern Cali to visit/ babysit our adorable nephew, James. Oh and his parents were fun too. ;)
I had almost forgotten how much I love a good roadtrip, dating back to being a kid in the backseat. Now we have our own little carseat critter to tote around and introduce her to the beauty that is our great state. So much fun!
While we were down Tommy and Karen took us to what will be "The Great Park" in Orange County.  When it is finished it will be hundreds of acres, but for now only a small percentage of it is complete including the Helium Air Balloon that takes your 40 stories in the air showing you a Panorama of the surrounding area.  I highly recommend it to anyone that is in the area, it is so cool! (and FREE!)

What better place for an outfit pic than 400 feet in the air?

don't look down...don't look down....
told ya....

I am currently obsessed lusting daydreaming IN LOVE with this necklace from Hunt. Gather. Fashion.

So, when I saw this vastly inferior, yet vaguely reminescent necklace at Target I had to snag it up.
Atleast, until I can come up with the means to be with my Luva.

Loving my lineny, sparkly sandals from Payless clearance.

The Hubby with his super sweet sister, Karen.

It's Prom season, right? How is our pose? We've been practicing.

Meggie Get Your Gun

This outfit is very Annie Oakley meets The Road Runner, can't you see it?

The hair was pretty kookey this day...very much in an awkward sort of growing out phase. Haven't decided what I'm doing with it. Always open to suggestions ;)
ANYWAYS....this headband bow type thingy I created by tyeing strips of tulle onto a skinny headband. Try it using whatever type fabric you please.

I guess that's all I have to say about that except....

.....MEEP! MEEP!....

Feathers and Floral

Have you ever bought something, kind of on a whim, and then had it turn into one of your favorite pieces? Well, I think that this big ole sweater may just be one of those things. It is so big and cozy, and I LOVE the large floral print. It is perfect for our central coast sometimes chilly Spring/Summer, but still springy because of the floral.

I was a bit worried about how ginormous it was, so I made sure to keep it dark and sleek underneath. Black tank. Skinny jeans. Done.

I got this feather earring from Etsy a couple weeks ago. The jury is still out...I like it with this sweater because they are the same color and it doesn't make such a huge statement. Feathers are very trendy right now and I try to not jump on trend bandwagons, but as I tweeted yesterday (follow me: @sewmeg ) I was betting on the Grama-esque sweater balancing out the "youth" of the earring.

Polka Party

Prints are here with a vengeance for Spring. Whether it be geometric, floral, or abstract, you really can't go wrong. I, personally, have always been more of a geometric print fan. I lean towards stripes, plaids and, obviously, polka dots. What I REALLY love is all the pattern mixing that I have been seeing. I cant wait to pair these pants with a fun floral top and platform sandals for a more summery look. For now I kept it simple and neutral with a few pops of color in the accessories.

Miu Miu Spring 2011

While you won't see me rocking any polka dot hot pants anytime soon, I am SO ready for this warm Spring weather and I am looking ever forward to warm and cheerful prints in the coming months. Apparently, I am not the only one with Polka Fever, today one of my FAVORITE style bloggers  Kendi Everyday is sporting the other half to what must be the most amazing pantsuit EVER. Needless to say,
Dots are HOT!

Give Back Gala: Couture for Charity

This weekend I was lucky enough to be able to travel to San Francisco to participate in the Give Back Gala benefiting Woman Inc. and  Career Closet. Ericka Engelman Couture showed her collection as well as 9 other up and coming, and extremely talented designers. It was so exciting to see so many different perspectives in fashion coming together for such a great  cause.

Had a few hours before we started rehearsals  for fabric shopping and a little speed shopping through   H and M.  This was my look for the day. The vintage sweater was the perfect piece for the mild but slightly windy SF day and my sockless flats still made me feel Springy.

I wish I had the time between dressing models to get pictures of some of the other designer's pieces, there were some really amazing and innovative designs.

This was such a special experience and I feel so blessed to have been a part of it. Congratulations to all of the designers on pulling off such a beautiful show!
